For centuries, the female form has been drawn, painted, photographed, celebrated and worshipped.
Over the past couple of decades, very tall and impossibly thin girls (aka 'supermodels') became the body du jour. The average woman began to dislike her own image and in an attempt to emulate these emaciated-looking females, took on demanding workout regimens and tried a new diet every month. All in the hope they would look like one of these underfed, glorified coat-hangers.
Ladies, lend me your rear, er, I mean ear.
Less than 5% of men interviewed found a supermodel's body desirable. Real men want real women.
John is a photographer whose work I've followed and admired for a couple of decades. Over the years, I've come to know him as a sensitive, kind-hearted fellow with a soul full of wisdom and a true but rare appreciation of women. The fact that he wants to capture our eroticism and beauty can be a gift like no other.
I won't kid you, I was excited but nervous as hell. This was a ground-breaking thing for me; I had never posed nude before. Kelly (his make-up artist) made me look and feel absolutely beautiful. In the words of Helmut Newton, one of the world's greatest fashion photographers, "A woman isn't truly naked unless she's wearing shoes." So I was very pleased to strut around in a pair of fabulous shoes.
When the moment came to drop my robe... we started out slow, very easy. I was amazed how quickly I became comfortable in my 'birthday suit'. I really started to enjoy the process. John knows how to support you to feel sensual and beautiful, all with the greatest flow of respect, gentleness and professionalism. I felt completely, fully empowered instead of vulnerable. Honestly, it may well be one of the best times I've ever had when my clothes came off.
Some may wonder if John is just getting his jollies doing this and charging unsuspecting women for his personal gratification. I can give you an unequivocal "No!" I've known him long enough. He's an artist and has created this unique opportunity for women (of a certain age) to experience their sensuality and beauty in a way that society seems to have forgotten and put aside in favour of young girls... who are far from knowing what it's like to be in a mature woman's body.
This was an opportunity to reclaim my sensual self and capture an image that made me proud of who I've become. To be honest, I believe doing this shoot was life changing for me in that I began to appreciate and see my body in a whole new positive and powerful way. It sure 'blew' my friends away. Thanks to John, I have immortalized an aspect of my femininity that makes me feel really good about my body and my self-image.
